Through the years, there has been some interest in my art history, family, farm, business, and lifestyle. I studied art in NYC in the sixties, then we moved to California where we started a family, developed a homestead, farm, and constructed our owner-built home. We have appeared on television, and in magazine articles, listed below:
FILM DOCUMENTARY: "The Profit in Marijuana Country", a film produced by Marcus Lemonis for his series, "The Profit". This episode first aired on CNBC on January 2, 2018, and is available on YouTube. Marcus visited our farm and interviewed me and Karen, and our two adult children, Nya and Elan. They filmed some of our farm and my art studio, with a painting in progress.

David investigates the "back to the land" movenent and how it is today. He interviewed people in Northern California, from Marin County to Humboldt County to see how things have changed over the past 50 years. Many of the places were communes and have crumbled over time and only ruins remain. We have a small family farm, and David was happy to see our home still intact and functioning. We built our house with a chainsaw and hand tools, using poles and wood milled from our land combiled with salvaged wood from Mendocino. We added on rooms as our family grew.
Our old friend and neighbor, Richard Evans, excorted David on the unmarked dirt roads to our remote place in the wilderness. One of the most striking features of our owner-built home is a window that Richard made for/with us, in a wood frame hand made by Ralph Torres. Richard is an acclaimed stained glass artist, however, many of his creations have been destroyed or lost through the years. He thanked us for the good care we have given ours. There is a photo of Richard in our house by this window.
THE ECONOMIST: May 14, 2022, "In California. the World's Largest Legal Weed Market is Going up in Smoke", article by Aryn Braun, Aryn interviews us, and explores the struggling legal cannabis market, and possibilities for small farms to survive the extensive regulations, overwhelming fees and taxes, and uncertain market condition.
PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK: "Property Rights", by Mitch Epstein. There is a photo of Tom, after a long day of farm work. Mitch uses an old style of black and white camera, with a hood and stand. He asked Tom to sit still for one hour!, for the slow exposure to be clear. That was difficult, but Tom took off his glasses and stared into space for the longest hour.
FULL POUR magazine: Fall 2025, article, "Cann Cultivate", by Jim Clark. Jim interviews cannabis farmers in the "Emerald Triangle"; Mendocino. Humboldt. amd Trinity Counties to document the history of the area and current conditions. He explores techniques for propagation, growing, harvesting, curing, processing, storing and selling the specialty of our area; Natural Sungrown Cannibis, the healthy choice for people and the environment.
