"The Abundance of Nature"
Tom started this painting when Marcus was visiting our home. Tom creates oil on canvas paintings in his unique style of abstract expressionism. This style demands both talent and patience. The scenes come from his mind; his recollection of images that he has collected over his lifetime. He starts with a general idea and applies broad strokes of paint to define the dimensions. Then he adds layers of color to provide the details of his vision. Each layer mist dry before the nest layer is applied, so the painting changes day by day.
When we lived in NYC, over a half century ago, he painted "peoplescapes", as he called them. But here in the forest of northern California, he is inspired to create art that depicts the beauty of our surroundings. He feels closely connected to nature, and each scene is filled with emotion as he paints what he sees, a well as the emotions he feels at that time. Essentially, he builds a painting, with bold, expressive brushstrokes to add texture, motion and depth. The colors that he choses correspond with his emotions, and the result is a spontaneous, original, and authentic piece of art.
